XBox LIVE 10th Anniversary – FREE Stuff and Limited Edition Console Bundle!

Posted by Yogizilla on November 17, 2012

We’re a little late to the party but don’t forget to download your FREE gamer pic and avatar item today!

image

XBox LIVE turned 10 years old officially on November 15th.  This is a pretty big deal so Microsoft has several awesome (and some random) games available for 50% OFF for two days.  That means tonight is it! Peggle, Castle Crashers, and other great games are up for grabs on the cheap now.

We’re disappointed that they’re no celebrating for longer but there is an opportunity to enter the sweepstakes/giveaway and possibly win one of the VERY limited edition XBox 360 console bundles.  We reckon they may be similar to the bundles we saw in Europe back in February 2012.

For me, this is a positive social signal that Microsoft is not abandoning the XBox 360 just yet.  Really, I’m not ready to commit to new hardware unless it’s new upgrades for my gaming PC..   Or a new laptop.  LOL

In any case, here is a link to help ya out:

http://majornelson.com/2012/11/15/happy-anniversary-to-xbox-live/

BTW, I met Major Nelson at the Halo 3 launch in NYC a few years back. Really cool guy and as down-to-earth as they come! Keep an eye on his blog and podcast. I’m sure more goodies are bound to come!

NDS Goodness: Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2007, Pokemon Diamond & Pearl

Posted by Yogizilla on May 13, 2007

Well, I couldn’t keep it up any longer. My Nintendo DS beckoned and I heeded it’s call. If you read my last blog entry, you know that I purchased a few awesome games after trying really hard not to budge. I simply must to discuss two in particular: Pokemon Pearl/Diamond and Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship 2007. Before I say anything, I want to let you guys know that these games are both good entries for new players so don’t be shy. If you like strategic gaming, role-playing games, TCGs, or anything of the sort, give these games a try. Hey – that rhymes!

Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2007

From the start, even the most casual Yu-Gi-Oh! fans may notice that this game is totally about the new wave of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards – the GX Series! While this is very much true, the beauty of this game is that, with over 1600 cards to collect, it is the most complete Yu-Gi-Oh! game to date, hence why it is the platform of choice for the World Championship coming up in June 2007! Duelists of all types can find something that appeals to them in this installment. I admit that there have been some lousy, lackluster installments in the series but this game returns to the grass roots of portable/handheld system Yu-Gi-Oh!: a focus on dueling, strategizing, and deck building. No worrying about exploring vast areas, going through many drawn-out cinematics, and having countless “gimme” battles – Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2007 is a challenge from start to finish, packed with lots of dueling action!

Now, before I proceed, I will let you in on a little secret: I am a very picky gamer. As a game designer and writer, I tend to analyze games and judge them on a different scale. For me, a great game has to have high replay value, fluid gameplay, variety, and, wherever possible, a strong human element (even good AI gets boring and predictable after a while). Both the latest Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! games for the Nintendo DS meet this criteria.

Coming Attractions: Spellcaster Deck, Pokemon Pearl, Yu-Gi-Oh Championship, and YDP-DPO Customer Perks

Posted by Yogizilla on May 12, 2007

If you haven’t been very active on Yu-Gi-Oh! Online you may have missed the release of yet another awesome themed duelpass. The Spellcasters Union Deck seems to be yet another response to the growing demand of the community. The E-Hero Deck was a huge success and I can see this deck being an even bigger success. While the previous duelpass deck provided an experience for the newer duelists and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX fans, this deck promises to offer more old-school flavors, fused with some newer cards.

Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl - Yu-Gi-Oh! Anime Screenshot

Dark Magician and the girl of similar title.. Now THAT'S kicking it old-school!

If you are a big fan of Yami Yugi’s style of dueling, this new theme deck will definitely be a nice addition to your trunk. Like the previous E-Hero Deck, this duelpass gives you an entire deck (in much the same manner Structure Decks offer duelists vital cores for their recipes) upon first use. Each additional duelpass, if you can get your hands on more than one, gives you additional cards in the series…

Can I Has Cheezburger? Yu-Gi-Oh Championship 2007?? We hit 25K hits!!

Posted by Yogizilla on May 3, 2007

!! ... =^o^=

Does the image show my excitement? I would hope so! I figured we were due for a nice little update. First and foremost, we hit and exceeded the 25K hits mark last month on this blog, thanks to you guys. I appreciate all your recent comments and support. We’re still looking for reliable vendors to help us keep steady supply chains going and serve our customers as we always have: in a timely, down-to-earth manner! With the added exposure, we’re beginning to develop new affiliations and partnerships, which is always fun stuff! I think our next milestone will be trying to double that.

If you would like me to guest blog on your site, drop me a line. I am big on the geek underground, cult gaming, indy projects, consumer advocacy, and all sorts of random stuff, as you can see by visiting my work at The Smooth DJ and my personal blog, right here on WordPress. We’ll gladly cross-promote sites that have natural segways with our happy little Yu-Gi-Oh community.

So, who here has played the new Nintendo DS Yu-Gi-Oh game? I got a chance to play and, I tell you, the only reason I have not purchased a copy for myself is because it is quite addicting and I think Yu-Gi-Oh! Online is enough for me right now. The features are definitely worth buying it. The game has 3D graphics, full character/avatar customization, and over 1600 new cards, including your favorite GX Series cards! Yu-Gi-Oh World Championship 2007 is probably the most complete and worthwhile installment for those of you out there that, like me, have purchased every Yu-Gi-Oh game under the sun, including the “stand-alone” PC versions.

If not for any other reason, you should get the new Yu-Gi-Oh! for Nintendo DS for the Wi-Fi play, allowing you to duel anyone in the world for FREE. The dynamics of the DS game versus Yu-Gi-Oh! Online are definitely different so it’s worth it playing both side-by-side, especially if you consider yourself a hardcore duelists and true fan. If you guys get the game, reply to this thread with your friend codes. I will probably get a Nintendo DS Friend Code List page going too for other games so let me know if that interests you guys!

Duelpass Shortage: Is The Well THAT Dry?

Posted by Yogizilla on March 20, 2007

We at YDP have received a few messages regarding our recent Yu-Gi-Oh! Online Duelpass shortages. Close friends and supporters have been nudging us for quite some time. Well, I assure you that our lack of inventory is not due to a lack of restocking efforts – there really is just that much demand… and the supply is lacking. Really, this metaphorical well has run dry (sorta).

Anyone or anything down there? Hellooooooooo??

That dry well in the desert serves as a perfect metaphor of how barren the distributor network is right now, for the most part. It works like thi: Konami comes out with something new and then they decide that the older stuff doesn’t have market value anymore so they eventually discontinue it. Most of the distributors out there are very small shops with virtually little or no visibility. There may be thousands of such sites, all with their own humble piece of the pie, but they are in their own little worlds. We would like to purchase their stocks, free them of their burdens, and make more Duelpasses available to our customers but, like I said, they are hidden away in some far-off recess of the Internet.

Cross Promotion: Oreo Cookies FTW!

Posted by Yogizilla on March 16, 2007

If you like oreo cookies or just want to help us draw more traffic, thus making Yu-Gi-Oh! online even more popular, please read on to find out how you can help with our 25K Click Campaign and a NEW Oreo Promotion. Here is the info straight from http://yogizilla.wordpress.com:

Vote for my bro, Antonio (a.k.a ToNy4MVP) of St. John’s University, at (or after) 3:00pm EST at http://www.cwtv.com/thecw/oreo – he is one of 15 finalist out of thousands upon thousands of entries. Very excited for him… Los Oreo’s SON MUY DELICIOSOS!!!!

Now for the perks, the stuff that’s in it for YOU. Those that take an active role in promoting this can send me their stories to be featured on my personal blog. If you’d like, I’ll also duel you and/or give you some Yu-Gi-Oh! training – FREE of charge! If that is no enough, you will receive a sort of spotlight in my duelist journal, where I will shout out all participants and show the world just how active our community is.

VROOM VROOM - Vote for your favorite Oreo - Oreo FTW!!!

This is a chance to show people that Yu-Gi-Oh! players and gamers as a whole are very much generous, aware of world issues, and involved in things that really matter. Why do I say this? Well, the grand prize winner of this promo has the option of donating $30,000 to the charity of his choice. Currently, my brother is in the lead and we are thinking of donating it to a major cancer charity since many of our own family members have died or suffered due to cancer (R.I.P. Buddy).

Back to happy news, please help out. I’d appreciate it greatly, all silliness aside, and it really is a good effort to get involved in. The more limelight this contest sees, the more they can do things like this in the future and give back to the community. That is how I look at it. Whether or not my brother wins, at least we are helping a good cause! ^_^

This promotion ends March 20th at 3:00pm EST so get in your votes now and re-vote as many times as you want – spread the w3rd!

The 25K Campaign: Now You Can Make Yu-Gi-Oh! More Popular

Posted by Yogizilla on March 14, 2007

The other day I decided it had been a while since I ran some extensive web analytics and I must say that I am pleased to see that sites I maintain, contribute to, and support all dominate the top of the search results.  Looking at the numbers and seeing the interest in the game grow right before my eyes (the truth is in the pudding, after all) really inspired me. Aside from making me want to duel more, it makes me want to continue my work as a sort of Yu-Gi-Oh! Online evangelist. Spread the good news of Yu-Gi-Oh, my brothers and sisters – spread it far and wide!

I know this sounds like a journal entry and, for the most part it is, but it is also a call to duty. Your call to duty is this: spread the word about this blog to everyone you know and everyone they know. Our blog does not have ads and is completely pure (the way a blog should be, IMHO). The only profit we stand to make is just making the Yu-Gi-Oh! community that much stronger. Sure, it’ll help if people click through to partner sites but sales conversions over blogs is hardly a viable strategy. I can sincerely say that we are campaigning for the good of Yu-Gi-Oh! here, not mere personal profit; the more traffic we get, the more exposure the game gets.  A major portion of our traffic comes from keyword searches that aren’t even specific to Yu-Gi-Oh! sometimes.  As a result, I am adding more tags here as we speak!

It’s funny but, when we first started this blog, it was meant to be a sales support channel for DPO then, when YDP and DPO merged, it evolved naturally. People started to give us great response about our unique perspective on the game and they liked our friendly approach to things. If you go to sites like TCGplayer.com, they have more of the typical elitist writers. If you aren’t winning well-known tournaments, you can’t even be their friends (good luck getting an e-mail response from them too). We’re trying to keep the snobbery out of the game and making the Yu-Gi-Oh! community more inviting because, to the non-dueling world, we are mostly disgruntled, anti-social nerds yet it is VERY much about the social interaction, the gathering, to us at YDP-DPO and many people we know!

WARNING: Yu-Gi-Oh! Scams, Myths, and Free Duels

Posted by Yogizilla on March 8, 2007

We recently received several messages at YDP regarding people promising free duelpasses and free duels. Some folks have also asked me where to buy Yu-Gi-Oh! Online Duelpasses. The response to Konami’s free duel lobby initiative has been tremendous as well. I have tackled a lot of the issues thereof but, just to revisit the core issues here, I’d like to issue a general scam warning and myth debunker.

First and foremost, Yu-Gi-Oh! Online no longer features a free duel lobby at the current point in time. This was a promotion and was meant to be temporary. We do not know if they have plans to bring it back as a seasonal feature or something available to new or low-level players only but, when we do get confirmation on this, we’ll let you all know. For now, the Yu-Gi-Oh! Online Duelpass system has been made much more accessible and affordable so we hope it encourages more new players!

Some sites have promised free duelpasses or unrealistically-good discounts. I have scoured the Net myself both as a customer (before I became a Yu-Gi-Oh! reseller) and a business owner. I have yet to find huge price drops and steady supplies from a reliable business. All the sites promise freebies have been scams aimed at stealing passwords, installing spyware, or doing other malicious things to the systems of their visitors. Be wary of any promises of free duelpasses and the like – those are all SCAMS!

What’s New: Yu-Gi-Oh! Online Duel Evolution – YUMMYYYYYYYY!!!

Posted by Yogizilla on March 3, 2007

Yu-Gi-Oh! Online Version 2 (Duel Evolution – w00t) is yummy INDEED!!!

At first glance, it seems like the game has been made more “kiddyish” but dueling just a little reveals that the community is more diverse than ever.  With the release of YGOO2 came some much-needed chat interface fixes.  You can now scroll up and type with little or no lag.  These things alone are huge differences for those of you out there that may jaded duelists from the “old-school” YGOO days. Chat is also tabbed, so you can chat with only those that are nearby, in your duel, or in the room/arena. I’m big on communication so nice chat features like this get a super-duper “YAY” from me!! =oD

You’ll notice that the approach to dueling is very distinct now. You run around and actually see people standing about, perhaps chatting or dueling with others. The creation of your online persona is far more complete, thus lending further to the rich community features that YGOO2 has set forth. Not only do you get to create your own avatar/character, but you get to make a little profile for yourself. These little touches make the game feel more people-focused and warm, for lack of better expressions. Back to the unique way that duels are handled, you can make your own duels or auto-duel, like before, but now it’s easier to see who is looking for certain types of duels as character names change colors depending on what mode they are in. Green represents “auto-dueling”, blue means that the person created a room, and orange means that the person created a private/password-protected room. It’s these small changes that go a long way, if you ask me!

A HUGE tip for first-timers on YGOO2: disable the auto-tracking feature. Just click on the wrench during a duel and you’ll be all set. This feature has made me lost a few duels simply because it makes your cursor fly about and select cards that you did not have any intention of clicking on. If you have a fast trigger finger like I do, that gets annoying quickly; especially if you play on multiple handles/aliases. Mini NAY on that because it’s only a small nuance, really.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Gunslinger, Duelist Trial, and MORE – EVOLVED!!!

Posted by Yogizilla on March 3, 2007

Yes, it’s true: your favorite official Yu-Gi-Oh! Online events are now better than ever. Just today, the first round of Duelist Trial completed but there will be more goodness to come. The beauty of Konami’s approach is that it is more newbie-friendly. They are practically giving away good cards now so that it all comes down to the best strategies winning, not the most-stacked decks, so to speak. It is because of this that DT wins can win you up to 3 cards per round while Gunslinger rounds now win you up to 5 cards per round, which is significantly more than before.

Now you can win less matches in a row and get the special cards that everyone raves about. You can always tell what these special cards are when you see most people whipping out new cards in their decks. I remember when the special card was Spirit Reaper and that cheese started. Then there was Injection Fairy Lily. Those cards are now staples in many deck builds so it goes to show you how these events stimulate more competition.

Don’t forget: 3/20 (that’s THIS month) marks the first round of the Championship Tournament. This is essentially the first major tournament of the new year (whether you go by the Chinese calendar or otherwise). If you are particularly competitive, now is the time to stock up on Duel Points and start tweaking your tourney-ready deck. There’s still plenty of time and I’m sure Konami will surprise us with more events. Don’t forget that events take place on Japan Standard Time (JST) so, usually, the end-of-week events take place around late-night Thursday through early-morning Saturday, for those that may be missing out.

In other news, Booster Pack 37 was just released on 3/2 (yesterday) so be sure to explore the contents of this new, exciting deck. Dragon decks are becoming popular once again (then again, they’ve always been spiffy) and it seems that people are intrigued due to the nice wrapper art. Expect updated card lists (a’la DuelPassOnline) or at least some useful card previews and spotlights. All in due time… For now, why don’t you see if you can meet fellow Yu-Gi-Oh! players in YDP’s chat room (YAY Java)?
