Black Ops 2 (XBox 360) – Double XP Weekend – Friday, September 20th 2013

Posted by Yogizilla on September 19, 2013

It’s that time again.  That’s right: the time when you return to CoD just because you can level up faster (if you don’t boost like a lamer).  Double XP weekend for Black Ops 2 starts Friday at 10am PDT / 1pm EDT.  If you’re on on the East coast or West coast, the time will be somewhere in between. =oP

I’m sure this applies to all platforms but I hope to clock some hours doing clan ops and goofing around with my NoF brothers and sisters on XBox LIVE.  Feel free to add me on XBL, Raptr, Steam, Twitter, and Twitch.  My name’s Yogizilla all over the interwebz.  Hopefully, everyone can pry themselves away from Diablo III and GTA V.  Lulz

I should be streaming on the Official Yogizilla Twitch TV Channel to show off my epic newbness too.  I’ve had a great response to my Scrolls and GTA V videos so I hope you will join us in the chat room.  I will be checking into the chat room periodically but you can always ping me, Yogizila, on Twitter, which notifies me on my tablets and smartphone.

Happy Hunting, fellow XBLers!

Brink: Is It The First Person Shooter You’ve Been Waiting For?

Posted by Yogizilla on May 10, 2011

Now that I’ve logged a good amount of play time in the first two days of “Brinkdom”, I’d like to preface my excitement with a bit of a reality check…

Replay value and the length of a video game are certainly key elements that add value to an offering. In the case of Brink, jaded gamers may say it’s too short. If you want to be overly-critical, the game doesn’t have a very deep story nor does it have plenty of gameplay modes upon release. I think it all works well and, if I know Splash Damage well enough, they’re going to find ways to keep Brink fresh and fun.

If you’re like my cousin and Brink reminds you of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, good observation! That’s arguably Splash Damage’s most well-known work. We won’t talk about Quake Wars so, really, this is their first real console entry. They’re going to want to do some big things here and Brink is set up to be expandable and user-driven. I’d say any shortcoming cited on this article are purely first impressions and not final in any way. Brink definitely feeds a very real need in a marketplace littered with clones and crap…

It’s been yet another busy day for me but I did manage to log a couple of hours on Brink. In a few words, it is well worth the money as far as I am concerned. Brink is Bethesda’s take on the FPS genre and, thanks to their experience with the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series (and teaming up with Splash Damage), there are some very welcomed RPG elements.

I’d compare Brink with some of my other favorite XBox 360 shooters: Borderlands, Team Fortress 2, Gears of War 3, and Rainbow Six Vegas 2. I’d say it is more akin to the foremost than the latter. While the game stands out on it’s own, the deep character customization, class-based obejctiive focus, and team-focused game mechanics should be familiar to the seasoned shooter veteran. Bethesda has done the impossible by weaving the Brink story into virtually every gameplay option.

I’m really excited about Brink but let’s dig deeper because, really, this game is not for everyone… Read the rest of this entry »

Duel Pass ONLINE Returns – Yu-Gi-Oh! Still Going Strong!

Posted by Yogizilla on March 18, 2011

Some of you may have already noticed that DPO is officially BACK!  It’s been hard to keep up with this site as a solo gig sooooo…  If you’re interested in becoming a contributor on Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Pass Online, reply to this message (I’ll repeat this again at the end in the “Game On! Wrap-Up”).

We’ve been lining up some new stuff for DPO for a few months now.  Now is as good as time to catch you all up on what’s going on!  First and foremost, we’re under new management here at DPO.  John is no longer with us so the retail component of our Yu-Gi-Oh! network is no more.

Fortunately, we at DPO and NoF as a whole love to game  so we’ve kept DPO going as part of our blog network and, ultimately, the NoF Network (affectionately called RoNoF for “Realm of NoF”).  We want to meet more gamers and geeks like us and keep the Yu-Gi-Oh! goodness coming.  As such, DPO will be providing more of what you already love and…

  • Anime and Manga news and recommendations.
  • Video game reviews and industry news.
  • Competitive events for gamers, locally and globally.

Don’t worry: we’ll be focusing on Yu-Gi-Oh! but we’ve noticed that some of our other content here has been quite popular as well.  In fact, our Anime pieces have been amongst our top searches.  We still remain a pretty underground so we hope to make our community more tightly-knit and interactive than ever!

Like I said, there’s lots of stuff in the pipelines so bare with us.  We’ll be linking to our top fan sites, friends, and affiliates.  If your web site and/or blog aligns well with our content, YOU may be the next featured site.  With around 50 new visitors each day, we have some good traffic to the site and hope to draw in some new fans soon.

SIDEBAR:  Can you believe it’s been over ten years now and Yu-Gi-Oh! is STILL going strong?  That’s pretty awesome, if you ask me.  The 5D’s series has been a big hit, in no small part thanks to the folks at Shonen Jump (be sure to follow ShonenJump, NipplesOfFate, and Yogizilla on Twitter) – w00t w00t!!

I’m particularly excited about sharing some of my recent Yu-Gi-Oh! purchases.  We’ll be doing some pack/box busters and sharing our favorite cards from different pack releases/series.  We’ll also discuss our favorite Yu-Gi-Oh! video games, movies, and MORE!

Game On! Wrap-Up

In our effort to increase our following and meet fellow geeks/gamers, we will be wrapping up major blog entries with your very own “Call To Action”.  Every good blog should drive action and encourage reader participation so we hope this sets up more opportunities for us to have good times together.  Here we go!

  • Help us reach 500K views.  We’re over 400K views which is pretty impressive for a site with minimal promotional effort behind it.  We need more folks to put us on their blogrolls, reviews, favorites, bookmarks, and all that good stuff.  Sharing is caring!
  • Like a topic?  Leave your mark.  No matter how long or short, we love reading comments from our fans.  Keep it friendly and specific.  If it sounds like spam, we may just unapprove your comments (sorry, no free links from us).  While you’re at it, be sure to Like, Share, Rate, and all that good stuff.
  • Let’s UNITE!  If you have a web site or blog, link to us and we’ll return the love.  While we run away from salespitchy, spammy messages, if you naturally introduce yourself and have something particularly interesting to share, we’ll be sure to check it out and pass the word along, as appropriate.  Together, we can reach new audiences..  EZ.
  • Want more?  Tell us.  We have lots of things lined up for DPO but, to stay focused, we need your help.  If there is anything in particular you like on our site, let us know.  All it takes is a quick comment.  What’s more is that your comments help us find your web sites and return the favor.  It’s a win-win situation!
  • Get friendly and support DPO Friends.  DPO Friends is a new page where we feature our favorite and affiliated sites.  Be sure to check out what our friends are up to.  If you’re savvy with social media, plug our friends away – a little extra exposure never hurts!
Over a decade later, Yu-Gi-Oh! is still going strong!!

Don't mess with these guys.. They're the real-deal-Holyfield of the Yu-Gi-Oh! duelist kingdom, y0.

2008 Address – New Year, New Fun!

Posted by Yogizilla on January 1, 2008

Hello all!

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the continued support and love! We love getting the cool content, links, and other ideas from you guys. Going into 2008, we all seem to have the same ideas and concerns about the direction of Yu-Gi-Oh! Online. Believe me: I am with you guys and gals – something needs to change! While we still have our shop open and love the entire Yu-Gi-Oh! universe (especially the unique community), I know that my Yu-Gi-Oh! dueling has declined in recent months. Hopefully 2008 will be different…

Adam, David, Moko, Yali, Taiyo, Lola_Girl, KiNgDeeM, and all our returning visitors… This one is dedicated to you! ^_^

( BTW,  why is it that some people say they duel only for money yet they won’t pay to duel online?  Seems like they may not be all that good if they’re not willing to put any money on the line.  Everyone knows that the most competitive tournaments are all in pay leagues with high stakes! =oP )
